In an effort to advocate and envision a more pedestrian and bike-friendly edge between the new I-90 corridor and the Charles River, Courtney Goode worked with fellow designers and non-profits to develop these preliminary design concepts. Currently, this edge condition is a hostile environment for pedestrians and cyclists with little to no ecological value. With a total redesign planned of the adjacent I-90 highway and rail corridor, activists from Walk Boston and the Charles River Conservancy came together with designers to develop these two alternatives for the landscape of this corridor. These designs helped secure funding and approvals for landscape and multi-use trail investment along the I-90 ‘throat’. Conceptual drawings were featured in the Boston Globe, and WBUR website.
